2025 Scholarship Application for Benjamin E. Banneker Senior Students Provided by Banneker Class of 1989, Inc. Fund

All applications must be submitted by February 1st

Founded in 2024, the Banneker Class of 1989, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to empowering students at Benjamin E. Banneker High School. Our mission is to support students in overcoming personal and academic challenges, providing resources through scholarships and other educational assistance initiatives. This scholarship is designed to recognize students with exceptional circumstances who demonstrate financial need, resilience, and a commitment to their future. We believe in fostering community growth by helping students achieve their educational goals and supporting them as they transition into college, trade school, or vocational pathways.

Scholarship Focus and Eligibility

Our scholarship aims to identify graduating high school seniors at Benjamin E. Banneker High School who have demonstrated resilience in overcoming personal or academic challenges. We are dedicated to supporting students who may not typically have access to scholarships and other resources due to their academic standing or financial limitations. Our focus is on those who have shown a desire to improve and a commitment to changing their circumstances, even if they do not meet traditional academic requirements.

Our Ideal Candidate:

• A student who has faced and overcome adversity, showing personal growth and resilience.

• A student who demonstrates a commitment to improving their future through education, whether in college, trade school, or vocational training.

• A student who may not readily qualify for other scholarships but shows a strong desire to pursue post-secondary education.

Eligibility Criteria:
  • GPA of 2.0 or higher
  • Must be a current senior
  • Demonstrates financial need
  • Completed FAFSA form
  • Enrollment in a post-secondary institution or trade school for the upcoming academic year
Essay Requirement:

Applicants must submit a 250-500 word essay titled, “Describe a challenge you’ve overcome and how it has shaped your future aspirations. How will those aspirations help a future student of Banneker High School?”
