Banneker Class of 1989, Inc. Facts

Our nonprofit supports a wide range of activities such as mentorship programs and scholarships. It also raises funds more effectively through grants and tax-deductible donations.

Donations to our nonprofit are tax-deductible, encouraging more generous contributions from individuals, alumni business owners, and community businesses.

Our nonprofit’s formal structure ensures accountability and allows for long-term goals, preserving and enhancing Banneker High School’s legacy for future generations.

Any graduate from Benjamin E. Banneker High School’s Class of 1989 is a general member of Banneker Class of 1989, Inc.

We have ten classmates from the Class of 1989 on the board of Banneker Class of 1989, Inc. No board member will receive a salary or any donation of any kind.

All donations go directly to an account that requires two signatures. All purchases must be approved by four or more board members. No board member or general member will collect donations on behalf of the nonprofit unless assigned by four or more board members at a function or event. Donation reports can be requested by any member at any time.

Our reunion planning committee is entirely separate from our nonprofit organization. It happens that the current reunion committee members are also the ones who formed the nonprofit and are board members. The reunion committee focuses on planning reunions, while our class nonprofit operates as a distinct entity. The reunion committee may change in the next five years to bring in new ideas.

90% of every donation made to Banneker Class of 1989, Inc. goes directly to Benjamin E. Banneker High School, with 10% used for the nonprofit’s administrative needs and expenses.
For reunion or event payments, 80% will be used to plan the reunion or function, and 20% will go directly to Benjamin E. Banneker High School.
